Kathryn + David | dubuque iowa engagement

August 15, 2016

“I proposed to Kathryn at Pikes Peak State Park I remember just being so nervous and the drive which is only an hour, seemed to take forever. I used every excuse in the book to get her there and had to convince her we were going to Cabela’s for a one day only sale. Every turn we took I kept thinking are we there yet. Finally we arrived and I set up my go pro camera and read a short speech that I wrote so I wouldn’t lose my train of thought.” – Dave, on his proposal to Kathryn

Kathryn & Dave love to garden, cook, hike, & see concerts together. They also love their dog Ben. Although they first met at a bar Dave bartended at, their love story really began after a metal show at “Voices” in Dubuque. Kathryn said, “I actually spilt a beer on him – we have been together since!” I read this & loved it, because my husband & I first met at our workplace, but really connected at a metal show at “Voices” and have been together ever since as well! So don’t let it ever be said that you can’t find a solid husband at a local metal show! … Glad we cleared that up. 😉  After I read this & stalked her Pinterest wedding board I knew that yes, these are my people.

At their engagement session I got to meet Ben the dog, who was a total ham for my camera. Then Kathryn & Dave had a little picnic and wine date, even popped a bottle of bubbly! So fun! After a quick outfit change we took advantage of the very last bit of sunlight to shoot some romantic images of the two of them just hanging out & cuddling. What an awesome session! I can’t wait for Kathryn & David’s wedding this weekend!

{In Their Words}

  • {3 words to describe Dave, by Kathryn} honest, amazing, curious
  • {3 words to describe Kathryn, by Dave} patient, beautiful and kind, I could go on and on
  • I knew I wanted to spend forever with my love when…
    • Kathryn: “I don’t have an exact moment. We went through a lot together, finals (as an undergrad and grad student), new jobs, and the passing away of my grandparents in 2 years…among other things. The way he supported me and was my rock showed me there was no one else I want to go through life’s ups and downs with. “
    • Dave: “I asked her if I could drop off flowers to her at work and she told me that would be stupid and she’d rather have a steak. I was head over heels at that moment.”
  • What is something you both have in common?
    • Kathryn: “We both like to cook and be lazy haha”
    • Dave: “We both share a love of good food.”
  • What is something that’s totally different about the two of you?
    • Kathryn: “I like to be social more, but Dave is more talkative. “
    • Dave: “Kathryn is very organized and likes to make plans, where I just kind of fly by the seat of my pants.”
  • What is a fun fact/something people might not guess about your fiancé?
    • Kathryn: “He loves to be silly – He can be caught singing and dancing in the kitchen.”
    • Dave: “Kathryn is very crafty and artistic which she never gives herself credit for.”
