Rural Wisconsin Summer Engagement

Mikayla + Jacob

It was just a typical night out with friends for Mikayla and Jacob when they ended up at the same bar. The two didn’t know each other, but luckily, their friends did. Mikayla said, “Through mutual friends is how we became introduced to each other, and the rest is history.”

The Proposal

Mikayla thought she was planning a small birthday dinner at Uno’s in Platteville, but Jacob had other plans. All day, he kept inviting more and more people, and Mikayla was getting stressed, worried there wouldn’t be enough room for everyone. What she didn’t know was that the growing guest list was part of the plan.

After dinner, once everyone finished singing happy birthday, Jacob completely caught her off guard by getting down on one knee. She was totally surprised. Jacob later said he picked her birthday on purpose, because he figured that was when she’d least expect a proposal, and he was right.

“He truly does have the biggest heart and cares about his family and friends.” – Mikayla

Mikayla & Jacob’s Wisconsin Summer Engagement Session

I met Mikayla & Jacob for engagement photos in a beautiful pasture in Wisconsin. Well… I technically met them right outside the gate. Then I hopped in my van to follow them, and promptly got stuck in a literal sh*t hole.

I was mortified, and they were so gracious. They recruited help to come pull the van out while we continued to our photo spot.

Despite the rough start and oppressive heat, Mikayla and Jacob had a great sense of humor, and we had a wonderful session.

I admitted I was not a first-time offender when it came to getting my van stuck in places. I had gotten stuck in the snow at another Wisconsin engagement session. Shout out to all of my lovely couples, and also to their Dads, who pull me out of sticky situations seemingly everywhere I go. 🤷‍♀️ 😅

Mikayla joked that at least it made for a good story, and that we were getting the “stuck vehicle” problem out of the way early. That way, during their winter wedding, we’d have no such problems. Noted.

Their dog Theo, joined us for some photos at the end of our session. Mikayla mentioned that when Theo smiled, he looked ferocious, but he was the best boy and looked nothing but adorable the entire time.

He did roll in a bunch of poop on the way back to the car, but… obviously, I could not judge him on that one. 😂

After we wrapped up photos, Jacob drove my Mom-Mobile back to the paved road (where it belongs), and Mikayla handed me a $20 bill for a car wash—just another example of how kind these two are.
