The first snow of the season started last night & it was gorgeous. It looked like big, puffy cotton balls slowly falling from the sky. I’m not a winter person typically, but the great thing about having kids is that you can see things through their eyes. I knew my 2 year old would find it magical, and it would be my 9 month old’s first time seeing snow at all. I was sad that my 10 year old was on a road trip with her Grandma & Aunt because I know she would have loved to get out there too!
I said, “Blake! Look outside! See all the snow?”
“Oh yeah! That’s a lot of snow Mom!”
“Want to go outside & see it? You can even catch it on your tongue and eat it!”
“Yeah Mommy yeah! I wanna go outside! Let’s go Mom!”
Of course then I had to actually find their snow gear! I just got excited & blurted out my idea. We only had a little bit of light left & now that my little Blake had heard the idea he wanted to be teleported outside instantaneously into the winter wonderland. With all of the typical patience of a 2 year old. 😉
I couldn’t find Cole’s baby snowsuit so I got out his 9-12 month winter coat and snow pants. They were way too big for him. He could barely move & would tip over from a sitting position. It was reminiscent of that scene from “A Christmas Story”. So we ended up with Cole wearing an oversized pair of snow pants & winter coat, no hat or shoes. Blake had a hat, snow pants, & a fall jacket that we switched after a stop at the car. It was warm, so I wasn’t too worried about it. I just wanted to get them out before the sun went down!
Blake was so excited when we got outside he kept yelling, “It’s snow time! It’s snow time!” Cole was not impressed, then touched the snow & was just flat out mad after that. Blake ran around full speed with his mouth wide open and tongue out trying to catch every snowflake. “It’s snowin’ Mom! I’m eatin’ it!” Then he would run up and give me hug. “I love you Mommy” I took most of these photos one handed while holding Cole or reaching out to help him balance & it got dark so quickly. While these aren’t technically perfect images they are so perfect to me. I live for documenting my kids’ lives. It’s a huge passion of mine. I plan to share more of how I document my family in the coming months, with tips to help you document yours.
