Lucy + Jess
Lucy and Jess met on Tinder. They started talking, and just never stopped. No matter what they were doing, they never missed an opportunity to chat. Within two weeks, they knew it was love.

The Proposal
Jess and Lucy were enjoying a peaceful weekend at Lucy’s family cabin up north. As night fell, Lucy suggested they head down to the dock and look for fish.
Jess was excited to check out the fish, and was shining a flashlight into the water to see them. She kept prompting Lucy to take a look, but Lucy was still standing behind her on the dock.
Jess was so focused on the fish that she didn’t notice what was happening until she turned around and saw Lucy down on one knee, holding the ring. The excitement was palpable, and Lucy’s enthusiastic “Yes!” could probably be heard across the whole lake.
Lucy & Jess’s Downtown Dubuque, Iowa Engagement Session
These two are cuddly and laid-back. They love to shop, hike, thrift, and hang out with their fur-babies. We started our session at the Mines of Spain, next to Catfish Creek. This exact starting point was actually an accident, because I’m directionally impaired. 😂 BUT it turned out to be a happy one. I love the fish/water connection back to the proposal.
After that, we headed to downtown Dubuque, to the Millwork District. Lucy & Jess have a very easy, comfortable energy together, so it was super fun to photograph them!

Tell me about your engagement rings!
Lucy: “Jess’s ring is a rutilated quartz and I picked it because it helps with anxiety and has a calming effect. Mine is an opal because it is my favorite stone.”
What is something you both have in common?
Lucy: “Our love for animals.”
Jess: “Love for animals.”
What is something totally different about the two of you?
Lucy: “She’s messy and I have OCD.”
Jess:”Lucy is an early bird while I like my beauty sleep.”
What is a fun fact/something people might not guess about your fiancé?
Lucy: “She can fix literally anything.”
Jess: “She has the biggest soft spot for our animals.”
I knew I wanted to spend forever with my love when…
Lucy: “She would come to work with me and hang out with the cows with me.”
What part of the wedding are you looking forward to most?
Lucy: “Saying I do.”
Jess: “The ceremony.”
These two are the cutest! I can’t wait for their wedding tomorrow at The Dubuque Arboretum & Botanical Gardens!
