Kristin + Matthew
Kristin and Matthew initially met online. They first met in person in late February 2020, right before the world shut down. They both knew right away how special the other was.
Matt said, “We walked around town and went to a museum where Kristin won me over by pointing out historical inaccuracies and whispering things like, “I already knew that.”
So, despite the physical distance between them and the pandemic making travel impossible, they continued to build their relationship via many Skype dates.

Like their first date, the next chapter in their love story started in a museum. Kristin loves dinosaurs and had never been to the Field Museum in Chicago. The Field Museum houses Sue the TRex, which is the largest and most complete tyrannosaurus rex fossil ever discovered. [Be sure to check out the dinosaur earrings Kristin wore during their engagement session as a nod to Sue.]
Matthew lived in Chicago and thought proposing in front of Sue would be perfect. He was right! With less than an hour left until closing time, Matthew got down on one knee and popped the question.
Kristin said yes, and later said of the trip, “Afterwards, we realized we spent very little time actually looking at Sue and missed almost everything in that gallery.” Totally understandable amidst all of the excitement!

Kristin and Matthew share a love of trail running. For their engagement session, they dressed up and headed to The Mines of Spain in Dubuque! We spent the first portion of the session exploring and taking photos in their dressy outfits.
For the last half, they switched into their running gear. I had so much fun capturing this unique side of their relationship. I also asked many questions because trail running is so foreign to me. If you see me running on a trail, run with me because there’s definitely a killer behind me. 😂

I knew I wanted to spend forever with my love when…
Matthew: “I first laid eyes on her.”
Kristin: “Not just one thing, but many things made me realize this. In our first few months of dating, he came to cheer me on while I ran a marathon that had been made virtual due to covid and met me at several points with a boombox and cowbell.”
What is something you both have in common?
Matthew: “We like to run marathons!”
Kristin: “We both run a lot and like to run marathons and ultra-marathons. Neither of us eats meat. We both like Wes Anderson movies.”
What is something totally different about the two of you?
Matthew: “How much running is too much.”
Kristin: “Matt gets up really early.”
What is a fun fact/something people might not guess about your fiancé?
Matthew: “She volunteers as a Court-appointed Special Advocate (CASA), which means she offers advice and support for abused or neglected children.”
Kristin: “He likes to paint watercolors.”
These two are so warm, kind, and comfortable together! I can’t wait for their wedding tomorrow at Covivium Urban Farmstead in Dubuque. What a perfect way to end the 2022 wedding season!
