The day that Lacey proposed to Bekah is one neither one of them will ever forget. I always ask my couples about their proposal stories & it never gets old hearing about them. They tell it better than me, so here is the story of Lacey proposing to Bekah, in Lacey’s words: “I remember Bekah telling me that one of her dreams was to attend a Rascal Flats concert. So from that day I knew how I would propose to the woman of my dreams. The day came(9/19/15) with our closest family members, and the second to last song one of Bekahs favorite, I got down on one knee and asked the girl of my dreams to marry me!! We both cried as she shook her head up and down saying yes.”
Now I’ve known Bekah for awhile, since we used to work together at the good old Olive Garden. 😉 I first met Lacey when I sat down with them both to discuss their wedding photography. I heard about Lacey’s proposal firsthand, I heard about their relationship, and their upcoming wedding. I was so thrilled to see how perfectly they went together and how their faces lit up as they told me their love story.
We planned the engagement session, and then Bekah told me she wanted to propose to Lacey. Her proposal story was so perfect and she wanted Lacey to feel that same excitement. She had even asked Lacey’s parents for permission. After much crafting (by Bekah) and planning we were ready to go. I got to the Mines of Spain before Bekah & Lacey & hid their closest family & friends in a bush. haha! Once the happy couple arrived we walked the trail back to the designated spot. I was so nervous I was talking a mile a minute, you’d think I was the one about to propose! I’m one of those people that can’t lie, and you can read my face pretty easily. Bekah is the same way, which is why we decided to do the proposal FIRST, photos SECOND. When we got to the spot I posed them both together and told them to close their eyes. Everyone jumped out of their hiding spots and started arranging the banner. “OK, just stay right there,” I said, “keep your eyes closed… I’m just getting some different angles…” I’m sure Lacey thought I was a total nut! Will we have our eyes closed for every photo?! haha! When Lacey finally did turn around to find Bekah on one knee, and her friends holding the banner she was shocked! The look on her face was perfect. We surprised her for sure, she never saw it coming! 🙂

- Bekah: “Gosh it is so hard for me to pinpoint one moment, there were so many moments that I couldn’t help but think to myself how perfect I thought she was for me and how much I would love to spend forever with her! I guess if I had to pick just one it would be this day that we decided to go for a random drive around rural Iowa… We spent hours just driving around and learning about each other. It was the most incredible day. I loved learning more about Lacey and getting to tell her about my past and some of the things that shaped me into who I am, while she listened intently, showing nothing but complete care and compassion… It was an incredible day, I’ll never forget it!”
- Lacey: “Bekah and I went for a random drive all over Dubuque and just talked the whole time. It was the perfect moment that I will always remember. We drove for hours and hours.”
- What is something you both have in common?
- Bekah: “We love to fish! We also like a lot of the same foods, especially sushi!”
- Lacey: “Our style, we both enjoy the outdoors, fishing, taste in food, taste in movies.”
- What is something that’s totally different about the two of you?
- Bekah: “Lacey is super athletic and coordinated and she loves to watch sporting events… I on the other hand am a complete clutz, I have never been good at any sports and while I will watch them on tv it is definitely not one of my favorite things to do.”
- Lacey: “Bekah is very crafty, I’m more competitive, huge fan of sports, and very coordinated.”
- What is a fun fact/something people might not guess about your fiancé?
- Bekah: “She is a complete softy… Once you get to know her of course! She can spend the whole day being a manager and the second she gets home she drops everything to cuddle and play with our puppy. And she is so incredible to me, she always knows just what to say or how to deal with whatever crazy female emotion I send her way! “
- Lacey: “She is very clumsy!”
