Anna + Grant

How They Met

Anna and Grant’s story technically started before they ever met—thanks to some matchmaking magic by Anna’s Godmother and Grant’s Mom. They tried setting them up years earlier, but it didn’t pan out. Fast forward to junior year at UW-Madison, Anna transferred in, and the moms gave it another shot.

Grant texted Anna to ask if she wanted to play tennis, and that ended up being their first date. They hit it off immediately—on and off the court—and were officially dating just 10 days later. Turns out, Mom does know best, and it pays to have a (Fairy) Godmother in your corner. 🧚 ✨

“I was so comfortable with her in everything. We met and then have spent every day together since.” – Grant

Proposal Story

Anna had been mentioning that she wanted to go on a picnic, so when she was visiting Madison for the weekend, Grant suggested they head to Observatory Hill—a quiet spot they both love with a great view of Lake Mendota. She thought it was just a casual date, but after about 20 minutes, Grant said he forgot his water in the car.

Really, he was going to grab the ring. When he came back and proposed, Anna was shocked and started crying on the spot.

About ten minutes later, a huge storm rolled in and poured on them, so they made a run for it and ended up at a cozy bar near the Capitol for celebratory drinks.

The original plan was actually to propose on the 4th of July in Dubuque—Anna’s favorite holiday—but when the ring wasn’t ready in time, Grant had to pivot. In the end, the change of plans worked out perfectly. PS – The ring was worth the wait! 💍 👀 Photo proof below. 😍

UW Madison Arboretum + Wisconsin Capitol Building Engagement Session

Anna and Grant are getting married at the Grand River Center in Dubuque; however, they live in Madison. So they thought a Madison engagement session would be perfect. I was in ✨heaven✨. I love that city so much. It’s got a great vibe to it, and plenty of inspiring locations for photos.

They chose the UW Madison Arboretum and the Madison Capitol building for locations, and they were both so pretty! At the Capitol, I was smitten with the symmetry of the architecture + the outfits they chose. Be still, my heart. When you see how this combo comes together, you’ll be swooning too.

Fun fact — Tony and I had our engagement photos taken there in 2011!
