Cyrus’s birthday bash was so much fun! I love the mustache & bow-tie theme his Mom Brittney came up with. This party has me inspired to plan my own little one’s first birthday. If you are inspired, & want to know more about how Brittney put the party together you can see her sources & tips at the bottom of this post! Thanks so much for sharing Brittney! 🙂
First off, the cake/cupcake table was a wonderful focal point in the party decor. I absolutely LOVE how she used newspaper as a background. The newspaper actually extends off of the left of the table to create a photo-booth area, bonus!
Fun photo-booth props!
A mustache journal for guests to write some words of wisdom for Cyrus.
The lemonade table was super cute! I loved all of the details like the signage, mustache confetti, milk bottles, & paper straws.
The party favors were chocolate bow-ties & mustaches on a stick, made by Mom & Dad. To make them stand up she used crinkle paper inside of a suitcase.
My little Alex was happy to help me test the light over by the cake table… she’s something else. 🙂 Cyrus went on a wagon ride around the party to greet his guests, & Blake got to come along.
I know he’s crying in that bottom left photo but it’s his party right? Plus seriously, even his little crying face is adorable!
Snuggles with Great Grandma. <3
The highchair belonged to Cyrus’s Dad when he was a baby. How great is that?! The red polka dot fabric did double duty by looking cute & also strapping Cyrus into the chair.
Ice cream from Aunt Kim!
Like father, like son. 🙂

My little man Blake was being passed from person to person while I photographed the party, and he didn’t mind one bit! 😉 I think he was keeping his Uncle Dan entertained. 🙂
Time for the cake smash! This is always my favorite part of any first birthday party. 🙂
I love how Cyrus just put his whole face into the cake at one point. Who needs hands? There are times I consider doing this, but I’m not sure I’m cute enough to get away with it. 😉 haha

A little sponge bath to get him ready for presents…
I had to capture this little moment between my kiddos. <3
This little sweetie was so excited to give Cyrus the homemade card he made for him. <3
Time for presents!
The stick-on mustaches were such a blast! I really want to have them at Blake’s dinosaur themed party in May… I can tie that in right…. 😉
Baby kisses!
That’s me on the left with my littles + the birthday boy. I love seeing Cyrus & Blake together. 🙂 They were actually due only about 2 weeks apart (Blake was born May 30th), but Cyrus arrived 9 weeks early, making his birthday February 21st. He’s obviously thriving & doing great! We are blessed to have him in the family, & it will be so fun watching the two boys grow up together.
Since Cyrus & Blake are second cousins they share the same awesome Great Grandma, who we lovingly refer to as Grambo. The photos of the 3 of them together will be cherished for a long time. <3

Party Info:
Location: Veterans Memorial Hall | Monticello, Iowa
Decorations: I got many of my ideas from pictures posted with the paper products I purchased, but I tried to add my own twist by using items I had or that I would use again! For the cake table and photo booth area, I used old newspapers as a backdrop. For cake plates, I used some plates I had made for my wedding. I purchased the red suitcases (as a set of 3) off of Amazon and plan to use those in the birthday boy’s room! I used photos of Cyrus from his first year of life to decorate the gift area. For the drink table, I used “milk” bottles (actually old Starbuck Frappuccino bottles), that I had from a baby shower I hosted. The red and white paper straws I purchased from PaperSource. I used red with white polka dot fabric from JoAnn’s to make table runners. The mustache napkins, confetti, wrapping paper, etc. was purchased at Hobby Lobby.
Outfit: Made by Cyrus’ Mom, who will soon be opening an Etsy store – Sowology. She also created his birthday top hat!
Invitations and other paper products: Petite Party Studio on Etsy. I printed the items I purchased at the Monticello Express.
Favors: Bow Tie and Mustache Candy- Made by Cyrus’ Mom. I purchased candy melt trays from Michaels and a variety of color candy melts. I wrapped the Candy in Cellophane baggies and attached a favor tag I purchased in my party pack from Petite Party Studio!
Menu: Ham and Cheese Sliders, Macoroni and Corn, BLT Salad, and Grape Salad Made by Cyrus’ Mom
Cake: White Cake with Buttercream Frosting for the Birthday Boy. White and Chocolate Cupcakes with buttercream frosting for the guest – made by Glamma Jill. And of course we had soft-serve ice cream!
Mom’s Rating: 5/5 Stars
Mom’s Review: “His party was perfect!! We were surrounded by family and friends that had been there to support us from the rough pregnancy through his first year of life! We had so much fun watching Cyrus interact with everyone, while enjoying great food and company! We wouldn’t change a thing about his party!!”
Tips/Tricks: I started planning the party about a month ahead of time, and tried to stay organized, but also tried to be resourceful. For example, I could have purchased the background paper for the cake table and photo booth area from PetiteParty Studio, but I hated the thought of printing it and throwing it away after the party, so we used newspaper and go the same affect!
Favorite Moment: I loved watching everyone hold Cyrus and interact with him in the photo booth! It was a great way for everyone to get to enjoy a few minutes with the birthday boy!!
