Jenni + Kyle
What to Wear for Your First Look
Couples often ask my advice about a first look. I always say, “Wear the pancake shirt.” Kidding! I cannot take any credit for this, BUT in the future, that’s my advice. Jenni emailed me before our final meeting to let me know she was planning on sneaking Kyle’s favorite pancake shirt to wear for the first look. This was a top-secret mission.
Apparently, the pancake shirt is somewhat famous. Kyle loves to wear it to Sunday breakfast, and Jenni thinks it may be the ugliest shirt she’s seen… ever. When I got her email I let her know that I now loved her even more than I did before. This is true, I think I’ll be adding a line to my “ideal client avatar” that says, “Pranks spouse-to-be during the first look.”
Here’s what I want to point out about this, that I love SO much. When Kyle turned around, he was so focused on Jenni’s face, he had no clue what she was wearing. I mean seriously, relationship goals. He was just looking into her eyes like he won the lottery. It took him a second, but then he busted up laughing.
Convivium Urban Farmstead Wedding Ceremony
These two said their vows in front of their closest friends & family at Convivium Urban Farmstead in June of 2018. This venue really fits their vibe perfectly, and I can’t say enough good things about it. It is such a wonderful place to say “I do”. I hope to photograph many more weddings here!
I really enjoyed listening to the post-ceremony speeches before we headed out for photos & the reception. That was something I’d never had a couple do, and it was great! If you are currently planning your wedding, please make it your own. Pinterest is great, but don’t let it have the final say…. mmmm k? Good.
It was a hot day and everyone really just rolled with it. We didn’t let it cramp our style, everything came together perfectly. I told Jenni & Kyle I’d keep this to myself, lest the wedding party get a big head. BUT really, wedding party, if you are reading this, you rocked it with no complaints.
When it came time to sneak outside for sunset photos, this wonderful cold breeze came through. The sky was gorgeous, Jenni took off her shoes, & we just had some fun and got some really great shots to end the night.
Take a scroll through Jenni & Kyle’s big day. You can read some of their very favorite parts from the day, and also their advice to future couples. Curious about their vendors? You can find a full list at the bottom of this post.
What was your favorite moment from the wedding day?
Jennifer: “Pancake surprise, walking down the aisle (ALTHOUGH DO I EVEN REMEMBER IT?), grabbing the wrong ring at the service, the speeches were all so thoughtful and/or funny, 1st dance, realizing we didn’t know how to cut a cake, Father-Daughter dance (Dad had SERIOUS health issues at the beginning of the year, so this was a beautiful small miracle)”
Kyle: “The actual act of getting married! I loved so many things about our day; the fake first look, the ceremony itself was lovely, our first dance, dancing the night away. Those were all amazing and I’ll remember them forever, but for me my “favorite” part was getting to marry the love of my life, just knowing that we get to spend the rest of our lives together.”
Any advice for future wedding couples?
Jennifer: “Decide what matters to you and DO IT! Everything else is just details. Also, everyone has to do what works for them, but we loved planning the wedding together.”
Kyle: “Maybe don’t pick one of the hottest days of the year in mid-summer as your wedding date? Other than that, just enjoy the whole process. I love that we were able to do so much of the planning together.”
Funniest memory from your wedding day?
Jennifer: “Almost all of my “favorite moments” are the funniest ones, although I would also add that it’s hilarious that people were dancing so hard that two people split their pants on the dance floor.”
Kyle: “As you can tell from your pictures I thought the fake first look was pretty funny. I also really enjoyed when Jenni grabbed the wrong ring during the ceremony and the fact that once it was time to cut the cake in front of everybody we had no idea what we were doing and proceeded to do a terrible job.”
If you could do it all over, would you change anything?
Jennifer: “No, but also, we could have had 100 different types of weddings and any/all of them would have been perfect.”
Kyle: “Nope”
Did you go on a honeymoon?
“We took a short weekend trip to Charleston, SC over the 4th of July holiday and we took our “real” honeymoon in September. We went to Portugal!”
