Brittney + Colin
They sat by each other in middle school, for both social studies and language arts classes. Brittney crimped her hair one day, and Colin started calling her, “ripples.”
I wonder what 7th grade Brittney & Colin would think if someone had told them that in 2024 they would be getting married, after 12 years together. From calling Brittney ripples, to soon being able to call her his wife — relationship glow up.✨ We love to see it. 🤩
“He sat behind me in 7th & 8th grade social studies, and constantly messed with my seat.” – Brittney
I’ve heard all kinds of engagement stories, but I was definitely intrigued when Brittney started the story with, “I was spreading manure…”
It started as just another day on the farm, with Colin and Brittney doing chores together. It’s easy to see that these two are a team, and today was no different.
Brittney explained that Colin would load the manure, and then she would go spread it on the field. When she approached to get another load, he asked her to go into the barn instead. A new calf had been born!
When she walked in, she saw the new calf—her cow’s first! Colin handed her the tagger to label the its ear, and when she looked at the tag, it read “Marry me.” She couldn’t help but laugh and said, “No”, probably totally caught off guard.
Colin explained the timing: “I gave her a bottle heifer two years before, and when that cow had her first calf, I gave her the ear tag that asked her to marry me.”
I absolutely love how much this proposal story feels right for these two. Low-key, while they are working together on the farm (which is how they spend so much of their time), and with some humor thrown in when Brittney responded with, “No.” 😂
Brittney & Colin’s Rural Iowa Farm Engagement Session
Brittney quit her office job to work full-time on the farm with Colin. They shared that so many of their dates (especially during harvest season), are spent there.
So it was the perfect spot for their engagement photos. We even got to use their vintage truck, which still runs! And of course, their two pups could not be left out. The cows even made a guest appearance for us.
And seriously, make sure not to miss the last couple photos in this post. Brittney asked if we could do some awkward poses, think, “Good lord Janice! … it’s like a fart transplant!” IYKYK… and I was like, “Yep, you’re my people, for sure.”
3 words to describe Colin, by Brittney | Pain in butt 😂
I knew I wanted to spend forever with my love when…
Brittney: “I saw him walk out of the community gym after football practice wearing a cutoff, shorts, and cowboy boots.”
Colin: “She wouldn’t stop asking me when I was going to propose.”
What is something you both have in common?
Brittney: “Our stubbornness.”
Colin: “Sexy.”
What is something totally different about the two of you?
Brittney: “Colin knows his way around a motor/vehicle and I know my way around a kitchen. lol”
Colin: “Gender.”
What is a fun fact/something people might not guess about your fiancé?
Brittney: “He loves his new and classic rock, he used to jam out to Rob Zombie during the summer before his 8th grade year while playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. I grew up on classic rock so that is one genre we can always agree on!”
Colin: “On our first date she fell backwards out of my truck when she tried to get in.”
Tell me about the ring!
Brittney: “My engagement ring is rose gold, pear shaped blue sapphire (Colin’s birthstone) with small diamonds around it. He had my friend help him get it from Philips Diamond Shop in Marion!”
“I’m so glad you finally made it. I’ve been crying for hours… had to re-do my makeup three times.” 😂 Brittney and Colin kept making the awkward poses look cute, and I had to yell at them for it. “Good lord, Janice!” 🤣
These two are so fun! I can’t wait for their outdoor wedding on Saturday! Brittney’s already got an idea for another funny wedding day photo on the farm, and I’m here for it.
