University of Dubuque Engagement Session

Rochelle + Andrew

Rochelle & Andrew met at a party thanks to their mutual friend, Brenna. They had no idea their meeting had been “pre-meditated”, but obviously Brenna was onto something when she decided these two should meet. They immediately hit it off.

As they stood at the crowded bar, Rochelle asked Andrew if it was OK that she was “in his space”. He didn’t mind one bit. At the end of the night he told his friends, “Guys. I think I’m in trouble. I think she’s the one.”

She was the one, and when Andrew was ready to propose, he wanted to surprise her. Since Rochelle is the planner out of the two, she thought it was a bit suspicious when he had a day totally planned out for the two of them. During a stroll down the riverwalk in Dubuque, Andrew popped the question… or at least part of it, and it was a quick, “Yes” from Rochelle.

He reaches behind his back, drops to his knee, & says ‘Will you…’ Before he could get to words 3 & 4 I yelled ‘Absolutely yes!’, & practically tackled him!” – Rochelle

Anyone who has seen these two together has seen how much they love each other. Andrew always opens the car door for Rochelle. Rochelle makes Andrew a warm cup of coffee each morning. They’re a team. 😊

Rochelle + Andrew’s Summer engagement session at The University of Dubuque.

The University of Dubuque was Rochelle & Andrew’s original wedding venue. Due to Covid, that changed. It was so great to be able to incorporate the campus into their engagement session instead. They showed me around, and we even found a couple of spots with purple flowers to include (to match their wedding).

Before calling it a night we headed to the Mines of Spain and caught a gorgeous sunset. Make sure to keep scrolling to see that sunset and read more about their love story.

I knew I wanted to spend forever with my love when…

Rochelle: “There’s not one moment when I knew this was it. It was a culmination of a lot of different things over time. I knew something was special when he told me he loved me first, and I wasn’t ready to say it back yet. Andrew wanted me to know how he felt about it, and he knew that even if I wasn’t ready to say it at the same time, it wouldn’t change anything. I’m a sensitive and emotional person, and there were a few times where I needed him in a crisis early on in our relationship, and he let me cry and get all my emotions out, and didn’t run away.”

I knew I wanted to spend forever with my love when…

Andrew: “After the first night we met. Rochelle and I hit it off from our first conversation. I had known about her from her golf days at Western Dubuque and Wartburg. … So we hit it off in our first night chatting. She eventually asked if it was okay that she was in my space since the bar was crowded. Of course, I didn’t mind. So that’s our inside joke. After chatting, I walked her back to her car, making sure she got in okay. I may or may not have been a little encouraged by the beverages I had consumed throughout the night. So she went on her way, and we went on our way… *later* I said to my brother Paul and Brenna, “Guys. I think I’m in trouble. I think she’s the one.”

What is something you both have in common?

Rochelle: “We both studied Communications in college, but didn’t meet until after graduation. We love dogs and can’t wait to have our own.”

Andrew: “We both enjoy golf and sports in general.”

What is something that’s totally different about the two of you?

Rochelle: “I’m an early bird, and he’s a night-owl. I’m right-handed and he’s left-handed.”

Andrew: “She’s a schedule-oriented person, I’m a go with the flow type. Hence why me planning a whole proposal day was so strange.”

What is a fun fact/something people might not guess about your fiancé?

Rochelle: “He hates it if I don’t get up to turn the oven or microwave timer off right away, but he will snooze his alarm numerous times in the morning.”

Andrew: “When on the golf course, you do not zip your bag while someone is addressing the ball.”
